The Little Beach wheel chair is serviced by council and available for no charge with the use of a MLAK key. It is not a beach chair (no big wheels), it has normal wheels and adjustable arm and foot rests for use on the designated jetty at Little Beach.

Many of the larger accommodation houses feature an in-house restaurant suitable for easy access. Within the Nelson Bay CBD there are a few cafes and restaurants on ground level, including sidewalk cafes and waterfront cafes.

In Port Stephens you can visit the Nelson Head Inner Lighthouse, which offers stunning views of the area. Or if it’s beautiful scenery you’re after why not undertake the Tomaree Headland torpedo tubes walk, which commences at Zenith Beach car park. There is a wheelchair friendly path for the length of the walk, with several stops along the way to rest and take in the view.

For those that like fishing, there are also a number of jetty’s in Port Stephens which are accessible for wheelchairs, there are also a number of beachside viewing areas and sensory experiences on offer.

HEADING on to the crisp white sand to take in the tranquil waters of Port Stephens just got a whole lot easier for those with a disability. It is all thanks to two new Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchairs which have been delivered to the Port Stephens Beachside Holiday Parks. The state-of-the art wheelchairs are available for loan from Halifax and Fingal Bay Holiday Parks, at no cost to the general public and park visitors alike.

The pneumatic tyres make navigating grass and sand easy and means the sandcruisers can be used on all terrain and allow people with a disability access from their vehicles to the water's edge.

Call the parks direct to make a booking - Halifax Holiday Park Tel: 02 49811522 or Fingal Bay Holiday Park on Tel: 02 49811473

Ngoika Centre Horticulture Education and Therapy Centre is a unique building designed especially to cater for people with a disability. In front of the centre is a sensory trail: a concrete pathway brushing past lots of interesting and fragrant plant species. Next door is the Port Stephens Native Flora Garden, and nearby at the beach there is a special jetty leading into the water for disabled swimming.
