3 days, 2 nights – Self Drive itinerary

Day 1

  • 09.00 196.6km / 2 hrs 30 min - Depart Sydney Hotel. Travel across the Harbour Bridge, onto the Pacific Highway and eventually onto the F3 Freeway. Comfort stop along the way. Follow signs to the Pacific Highway and to Nelson Bay.
  • 12.00Arrive at the Australian Shark and Ray Centre, Bobs Farm. One of the most exciting adventures to be had is hand feeding sharks and stingrays.
  • 13.30Murrays Brewery and Port Stephens Winery for relaxing lunch amongst the vines and wine or beer tasting.
  • 15.00Travel to Nelson Bay and drive to the top of Gan Gan lookout for spectacular views of the area.
  • 16.00Transfer to hotel and book in for overnight accommodation. Afternoon leisurely walk along the waterfront or stroll through Nelson Bay township for shopping or coffee.
  • Dinner at hotel / resort

Day 2

  • 07.00 After breakfast, depart for Tomaree Headland at Shoal Bay. Enjoy an energetic walk to the top of the headland for breathtaking views along the coast. Over winter you may even see the whales passing by
  • 09.00 Arrive back at your hotel / resort to freshen up
  • 10.00 Travel to Nelson Bay to board a dolphin watch cruise. On return try a relaxing lunch of fish and chips or at a seafood restaurant on the waterfront.
  • 14.00 Depart for the Stockton sand dunes and enjoy the awesome 32km long coastal desert wilderness
  • 16.30 Return to your hotel and relax after the days adventures
  • Dinner at a local restaurant in Nelson Bay. List of restaurants and recommendations are available from the Visitor Information Centre in Nelson Bay.

Day 3

  • 08.00 Have a leisurely breakfast
  • 10.00 Experience the thrill of parasailing with Port Stephens Parasailing departing from Nelson Bay waterfront.
  • 12.00 Brewery tour at Murrays Brewery and Port Stephens Winery followed by wine / beer tasting and Aussie BBQ lunch
  • 16.00 Depart for your journey back to Sydney or continue your trip of discovery northwards along the Pacific Coast Touring Route.
