Port Stephens has a vibrant events calendar with a number of activities taking place across the year.
There’s something for everyone in Port Stephens – with the region providing a diverse spread of event venues that play host to festivals and sporting events, some of which are highlighted here.

February / March
Port Stephens Billfish Shootout
The waters offshore are alive with marine life. We don't just have dolphins and whales that frequent our waters, there are also snapper, blue, black and striped marlin, yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi, sword fish and various species of shark.
Nautilis Boat Insurance Interclub Game Fishing Tournament
Held over 2 weekends, the New South Wales Game Fishing Association organised event is now in its 48th year. The tournament has approximately 200+ vessels and 1000 anglers
Club Marine Trailerboat Sportsfishing Tournament
Held each year the weekend prior to Easter, the Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament has grown to be amongst the most popular family fishing tournaments in Australia while staying true to its original ideal of making anglers of all ages and skill levels welcome.
Sail Port Stephens
See boats of all sizes and yachties from all over Australia competing in the annual sailing regatta that’s emerging as one of the fastest growing regattas on the east coast – a week long event. Click here for the full program.

Dawn Service: 5.25am: Assemble at Apex Park. Commemoration at 5.30am
Main service: 10.30am: March assembles at Nelson Bay Bowling Club. 10.40am: March moves off down Stockton Street. 10.50am: Main Commemoration Service begins at Apex Park.

Elite Energy’s “Triportstephens” Party
Race 9 of the NSW Triathalon series, a 2 day triathlon and multisport festival that is set bring the exciting and growing sport of triathlon back to one of Australia’s most scenic coastal enclaves, Port Stephens.
Lost Highway Karuah Bluegrass Music Festival
Set in the picturesque riverside village of Karuah, just off the highway, this 2 day event celebrates Country Swing and Blue Grass Music. Its new, it’s different and it’s a great weekend.
Port To Port Newcastle MTB Event
Port to Port MTB is a 4 day race starting in May 2014. The race is designed to be fun and challenging for riders of all levels, from recreational to competitive. Riders will be treated to the iconic local scenery of Port Stephens, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
Southern Cross SUP Festival 2014
The Shoal Bay Resort & Spa Southern Cross SUP Festival will see a festival of Stand Up Paddleboards involving races, the NSW State Titles surfing competition as well as an array of happenings.
Blue Water Country Music Festival
Boot scootin’ fun held over the June Long Weekend every year – live music spread across a number of venues around the Bay, as well as buskers and street entertainment.
Nelson Bay Blue Water Sculpture Festival - Dates TBA
A festival celebrating sculpture set in the pristine Nelson Bay environment. Enjoy the markets. Be amazed by the creative sculptures on the sculptural walk. Enjoy free family entertainment and activities. Kids participate in sculpture workshops and sand sculpting. Art forum and more.
Port Stephens Spring Club Golf Event
The event will be contested on three of Port Stephens premier courses, Nelson Bay Golf Course, Pacific Dunes Course in Medowie and Horizons Golf Course in Salamander Bay over four days and culminating in a gala presentation dinner on Friday evening. The format of the event is designed to provide all players a challenge on a variety of courses in a fun, relaxed environment and all in close proximity to Nelson Bay, the jewel of Port Stephens.
Port Stephens Film Festival
Film-makers required for the Port Stephens Film Festival 2014. We are not a competitive Festival and we welcome genre movies (except documentaries), shorts, features and animations. Be imaginative and edgy by all means!
Clans of the Coast - Dates TBA
A Celtic Celebration filled with traditional dancing, Highland Games, Strongman competition, pipe bands, singing groups and a wide range of stalls with Celtic goods on sale at Tomaree Sports Oval.
Festival of the Senses
Previously known as the Shoal Bay Jazz, Wine & Food Festival. Set against a perfect backdrop of the white sands of Shoal Bay and the pristine waterways of Port Stephens. “Festival of the Senses” is a popular cultural experience and an essential event on the annual social calendar.Plenty of jazz, wine and food, sample a wide variety of delectable wines and delicious local produce while enjoying a medley of soulful musicians.
Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival
Come to the Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival that showcases the two industries the town was built on.
Come along to sample beautiful Port Stephens Oysters and watch some of the states best Axemen compete in various Wood Chopping events, as well as stalls and entertainment. Fun for all the family.
Myall River Festival - Dates TBA
The Myall River Festival is a free family friendly event, with a large variety of market stalls, stage entertainment, river activities, games and competitions for the kids, all taking place on the magical waterfront of Tea Gardens, beside the Myall River. Enjoy fireworks on Friday and the festivities Saturday. Enjoy camel rides; bungee trampoline; jumping castle and giant slide; face painting; two music stages with live music; displays; sail past (river parade); tea gardens school duck race; dancing performances; live band on the main stage from 12pm; vintage car display; more than 100 market stalls.
Tastes at the Bay - Dates TBA
A foodies weekend the first weekend of November – enjoy the explosion of flavours. Held on the Nelson Bay foreshore and at d’Albora Marina – with a large range of local produce, food and wine, live music and fun for the whole family.
New Years Fireworks
See in the New Year with the d’Albora Fireworks at Nelson Bay. Call in to the Visitors Centre to find out where the best vantage spots are at various locations around Port Stephens. Details to follow.
