Tanilba House

Beautiful Tanilba House c1831 is the oldest original home in Port Stephens. State heritage listed, she sits proudly on a peninsula surrounded by the bay on 3 acres of manicured gardens on the Tilligerry Peninsula.

Tanilba is an indigenous word and means "Place of white flowers". Built of porphyry stone by convicts for Lt William Caswell and his large family, it was designed to be an impressive colonial home. The garden contains various heritage listed items including arguably the oldest olive tree in Australia, a wisteria covered pergola, an ancient Bunya pine and two c160 year old fig trees.

Tanilba House is available for hire for a range of activities including weddings, celebrations, corporate events and group hire.

Old fashioned High teas and Devonshire Teas are also held at various times of the year and open days occur at least once per year. All events can be found on the Tanilba house website and facebook page.

The house can also be booked for group lunches and history tours by application.
